Iceland from Afar

In 1928, the National Gallery of Iceland received as a gift 24 landscape paintings, likely from the 18th century by an unknown artist. All of them bear inscriptions linking the subject matter to Iceland, for example Eyjafjallajökull and Almannagjá; however, it is clear that the artist can hardly have visited Iceland, as little in these works resembles the Icelandic landscape.
