The Icelandic Wartime Museum

The Icelandic Wartime Museum in Reyðarfjörður was established in 1995 with the aim of allowing visitors to travel back to the days of the occupation to either revisit old memories or create new ones. The main focus is on life during the war years and the impact of the occupation on the Icelandic nation, with the museum’s exhibitions presenting this in a lively and engaging way. Visitors have the opportunity to enter a barracks and a cinema hall, as well as view artifacts and numerous photographs from the wartime period. The museum is one of four museums operated by Fjarðabyggð and falls under the Fjarðabyggð Cultural Office.
