Thorbergur center of culture
Þórbergssetur in Hali in Suðursveit is a self-owned institution that began operations on July 1, 2006. Þórbergssetur is a cultural center founded in memory of Þórbergur Þórðarson, a writer (1888-1974) who was born in the farm Hali and grew up there until the age of 18. Þórberg has made Suðursveit a well-known countryside in Iceland with his works. Þórbergssetur has an entertaining experiential exhibition, designed by set designer Jón Þórisson, where you can learn about the writer, his life and work. There is also a diverse cultural program at the center such as seminars, literary festivals, art exhibitions, photography exhibitions, concerts and various other events. Þórbergssetur is a popular tourist destination and visitors enjoy traditional food and look around the place. Þórbergur Þórðarson is considered one of the most significant writers of the 20th century in Iceland, as he was awarded the honorary title of Master Þórbergur due to his astonishing skill in writing in the Icelandic language.
