Textile Museum
The Textile Museum in Blönduós is unique in Iceland. Re-opened in a new building in 2003, it now provides much more space for its exhibitions.
The full exhibition is divided into different sections:
1. Embroideries: Beautiful embroidered underwear and other artistic manual work.
2. National Costumes: Beautiful Icelandic national costumes from 1850-1900.
3. Halldórustofa: Halldóra‘s room, dedicated to the memory of Halldóra Bjarnadóttir (1873-1981), a well known woman in Iceland.
4. Wool: the role of wool in Iceland from the early settlers until the present day.
5. Textile Exhibitions: annual exhibitions of artists from Iceland.
Furthermore, the museum exhibits several hand-made tools and equipment used in making the artistic hand-crafts and embroideries. The museum also hosts various cultural events such as concerts, talks, advent reads, courses and more.
