Akranes Folk Museum
Akranes Folk Museum was founded by Jón M. Guðjónsson a local priest and opened its doors on the 13th of December 1959.
From the beginning the museum has been placed in the ancient church ground here in Akranes.
The museum is owned by the local municipality of Akranes and Hvalfjarðasveit and aims to collect, archive and protect local artifacts and stories.
The archive mirrors local history, work ethics and culture, and includes artifacts related to fishing, agriculture, industrial companies, sports and household use.
